Shaker Design Ladderback with Candle Flame Finial
The finials or pommels atop the back of the chair in the time of the Shakers in the 1800's were not just for beauty but they were also used as handles for lifting and moving the chairs around. We think this is still useful today - being able to move the chair around easily. Our finials have been designed to suggest an elegant candleflame. We have kept the rest of the chair simple to show off these beautiful finials.
Our chairs feature Kiln dried birch wood from Maine. Posts are turned on lathe. We put the chair together with
Mortise and tenon joint technique and glue for strength.
We finely sand all wood. The posts and slats of the chair are bent with steam for a comfortable back rest.
We apply 4 to 5 coats of finish.
The seats are handwoven fiber rush with a protective finish.
